It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

It needed until Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase exceeding 300, regaining their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It is hard for their batters to maintain a record if never given the chance.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy being given a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has witnessed all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her debut and seven world titles have resulted from 10 tries across formats.

The tough gloveman was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy stated recently.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She made sure her country would not fail again.

Whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort is debatable.

Certain people claim the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when confronting a historic chase and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was far harder to see coming.

The Christchurch destruction in 2022 occurred when she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it was a challenging time because I feel like I lacked timing completely," commented Healy.

"However when you take the field, your competitive nature activate and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has always been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, dismissed by the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but on this occasion it simply offered Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off the bowler's initial ball and after that the right-hander was in motion.

"A chance to go out there and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself that way, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 as she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three sixes.

When she was dismissed her side needed 66 more at run per delivery - a manageable total now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Ideally we won't need to repeat it but, if we do, we are confident we can achieve it."

Those words will be the final thing competing nations at this championship should hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will triumph from any situation has only strengthened - this success following win against Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they left last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the first time at a major tournament.

Such is her determination, she later said she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

However although she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed consideration of ending her career, this championship is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
