The winter transfer market is always a time of intense rumour and possible big-money transfers. Several high-profile footballers are being linked with transfers out of their present teams. We examine some of the key names who might be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the AFCON, this has kept the forward available, indications are a major transfer is imminent. This 25-year-old has a deal with a sizeable buy-out clause applicable for a short period in early January. Recent developments suggest the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other suitors such as Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to other targets, potentially opening the door for clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United to make a last-minute bid.

Marc Guéhi

This England defender has excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer move to Anfield collapsing. As his deal due to run out in the close season, January is the London club's last opportunity to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite sides, such as City and multiple European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly hold an interest. Yet, a January exit is considered unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the player.

Brennan Johnson

This Wales winger has found starting opportunities hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Although finishing as the side's leading goalscorer last season, Johnson has begun only a small number of Premier League matches. Reports suggest the North London outfit would be open to a sale for the correct price, believed to be in the region of forty million pounds. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace additionally showing an interest.

R. Neves

The Portugal midfielder might be poised for a comeback to the English top flight after a period in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, while his contract expiring in the summer, he is a possible opportunity. Teams like Manchester United and Liverpool are linked with the player. Furthermore, there have been suggestions from Spain that he would be prepared to accept a reduced salary for a move to Real Madrid.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The experienced Germany shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barça following the coach Flick. After lost his place and had an operation, a winter departure seems increasingly likely. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option now appears off. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

This prolific English centre-forward has kept finding the net regularly in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of being in the national squad. But, securing a deal poses major hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to sell him, and his reported huge weekly wages render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton have all been linked as admirers.

Conor Gallagher

This energetic midfielder attracted widespread attention in the off-season but stayed at Atlético Madrid. With limited starts in Spain this term, he may be keen to find more minutes ahead of the World Cup. Manchester United are heavily connected, and a move back to Selhurst Park, a club he excelled on loan, remains a possibility, although financial demands could prove a stumbling block.

Harvey Elliott

Despite starring and being named the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, this talented midfielder has struggled for game time on loan at Villa. The manager has stated the temporary transfer will not be made permanent. Because of FIFA regulations regarding playing for two clubs in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool before next summer appears to be the only available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish forward is in excellent form for the Italian giants this season. As his existing deal nearing its end, a host of English clubs – including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. The Turin club are eager to secure the youngster to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to keep one of Europe's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

The much-admired Netherlands midfielder has earned parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. Following starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ Alkmaar side. The 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately £22 million.
